Tour de Trossachs 2009 Preview

-

HomeRaceRace PreviewsTour de Trossachs 2009 Preview

– by Janette Hazlett – I rode round the course for the Tour de Trossachs 2009 time trial the other day – ouch… now I’m feeling just a little bit guilty that I make them race round it!

There were no crowds for me on the Duke’s Pass – and I was flying up it too, honest!

Tour de Trossachs 2009
Defending Champion Arthur Doyle is top seed tomorrow.

It’s a 10.00am start tomorrow, and it should be interesting battle, amongst the men and the women: an on-form Christine McLean, Sharon Doyle and Mari Todd are my predictions for the podium.

I’ve put the Juniors on just before some of the fast seniors and vets as I thought it might be good for them to be amongst the big boys — I’ve always felt they were a bit out of things being put off first.

Tour de Trossachs 2009
It’s Trossachs time again.

Dooleys look like the favourite for the team — it’s a shame Endura Racing couldn’t produce a third member, but I did try! It would have been a good “testers v roadies” battle – the course certainly has something for masters of both disciplines, and a few riders are venturing from down south which is good to see — hoping for more next year, when the race will be part of the Rudy Project series.

I have got two of the Ferrys riding — I also tried to get Andrew to enter to make up a team – next year I’m offering free entries to previous winners!

Bec CC Hill Climb: Preview of the 52nd Edition

The 2006 edition of the Bec CC Hill Climb was absolutely remarkable on several fronts. Firstly, for the very first time in the history of the event we had a dead heat for 1st place. Gary Dodd of Sigma Sport, and Bill Bell of the Gemini B.C. battled to the line, in atrocious weather to both record a time of 1.49.17. Neither of these 'Kings of the Hill' have, as yet, stuck their heads above the turret for this years event, and neither have they been spotted out reconoitering White Lane in prep for another crack at taking the honours.

Le Tour de France starts tomorrow! Who do we fancy?

Like it or not, the sport of professional cycle racing is largely defined by one race – the Tour de France. To aficionados the Primavera, Ronde, Hell of the North and Classic of the Falling Leaves are eagerly awaited then devoured and endlessly analysed. But mention any of these races to the ‘man in the street’ and you’ll be met with a blank stare. The Giro and Vuelta will elicit a similar response - Paris-Nice? Forget it. But tell a ‘lay person’ you’re going to the Tour de France and in response you’ll get; ‘Lance, Cav, yellow jersey’ – and ‘drugs,’ naturally.

Le Tour de France ’11, Second Rest Day – or not

We're in the Dröme Department, and it may be a notional Tour de France Rest Day, but all that really means is that there's no racing today - despite what Ned Boulting might tell you about spending time in launderettes, almost everyone still has lots to do. For example, the riders - for whom the rest day is most important, still have to attend press conferences, talk to daft journalists and answer "f****ing stupid questions"(copyright Mark Cavendish), the team mechanics take advantage of the extra time to prep the time trial bikes for next Saturday's chrono, and so on.
