Time for R&R, and some Thank You’s

My 2012 season began way back on the 19/02 and with my final race on the 14/10, it is finally time to relax, reflect and look ahead to the rest of 2012, 2013 and beyond! Writes Dan Patten.

Dan Patten
Celebrating with the traditional flowers.

There have been ups and there have been downs (expected as a cyclist) but the good times always outweigh the bad.

All in all I took three wins this year, one overall classement win, and three further podium placings amongst other top 10’s.

As always I lived up to my reputation of riding aggressively, attacking at every opportunity and helping to get the Soenens Construkt Glas colours out front in the bike race.

As well as this I again got to show this year my selfless side as a cyclist, helping my fellow teammates all in the name of the team performance.

All proving that satisfaction in this sport dosn’t just simply come from winning alone, but giving 100% on the road!

Dan Patten
On the front – this happened a lot.

In case you missed them, here are a couple of videos of breakaway action this year:

Dan Patten
I made it into quite a few breaks this year.

And so to some credits for 2012.

Firstly I would like to thank everyone at Cycling Team Soenens Construkt Glas for your support this year.

It’s been a great year riding with and representing this team!

Dan Patten
Jumping my companions!

To my coach/trainer/therapist Luc Wante, who has been the one responsible for my successes this year by again keeping my body in great working order week after week for the duration of the season.

Dan Patten
Thanks to all who have helped me out this season.

To the Dave Rayner Fund and the Grays Public Purposes and Recreational Charity for their financial support this year.

I am so grateful for your support and you have made this year possible. And never taken for granted…

I of course continued racing hard from start to finish in the chase of prize money on the kermesse circuit!

Dan Patten
I love my keremesse racing.

To other individual sponsors and helpers who supported me in one way or another with equipment/products.

This includes Blair Morgan and Paligap for continued support with ‘Cycleops’ Power equipment.

To Allen Bridge who helped me out with ‘CNP’ nutritional products and to James White Drinks for support towards ‘Beet It’ products.

Dan Patten
All the support, whether financial or practical, is greatly appreciated.

To Martin and Ed here at VeloVeritas for continuing to support me in my cycling career and continuing to publish my blog.

Dan Patten
Soenens Construkt Glas has been a terrific team for me this season.

And finally (last but not least!) to all my family and friends for the continued support.

So many people to mention by name, but of course my parents and brother and everyone else that has followed, been part of and supported me this year. I’m sure you know who you are – it means everything!

Dan Patten
And so time to put the feet up for a bit… the future awaits!

Until next time, Dan Patten.

Dan Patten Blog – New Colours for 2013!

So this is my first blog post from across the pond aka stateside aka the USA writes Dan Patten. Despite everything tending to be bigger here in the US, I intend to keep my blog postings shorter and more frequent this year (well this is the plan!). It's been a little over 3 weeks now since I took off from London Heathrow. A smooth flight to Philadelphia was followed by some airport time before another flight onto Greensboro, North Carolina...

Dan Patten Blog – Back to the Front

So last time I was posting here on the Dan Patten Blog about the great weather we were experiencing in Belgium at that time. Unfortunately the sun has gone and the rain has returned. Clearly 20 degrees+ in March was a treat. I'm hoping a treat that returns soon.

Dan Patton Blog – Getting Back On It

So I thought it was about time I posted another Dan Patton Blog update, I've been rather quiet of late and the reason being quite simply there's not been much to talk about. I've been plagued by misfortune after misfortune this winter which ironically gave me lots more time to update the blog, yet I was short of anything really interesting to say - until now that is...

Just a typical Wednesday afternoon in Kermis Belgium

172 starters on a Wednesday afternoon... only in Kermis Belgium. This was a hard race from the off, again typical of Belgium. With only one amateur race taking place on this day it meant this race was full-on. A couple of crashes in the peloton on the same corner on consecutive laps didn't help matters...

Fullarton Wheelers Ice Breaker 2-Up Time Trial

Sportsmen in general, and cyclists are no different in this respect, are a superstitious lot. So it goes without saying that good omens are often looked for when we set out to the first race of the new Scottish season. Sunday morning dawned bright, clear and sunny as sixty teams of two warmed up for the Fullarton Wheelers Ice Breaker 2-Up Time Trial on the outskirts of Irvine, and the unseasonably favourable weather was the omen that most had looked for.

Le Tour de France 2016 – Stage 11; Carcassonne – Montpellier. Sagan and Froome Escape the Sprinters

From Carcassonne it COULD have been a ‘snooze-fest.’ It SHOULD have been a sprinters stage. Enter, stage left one superb Slovakian in green, Mr. Peter Sagan (Tinkoff). He attacks from the front in the cross winds inside 12 K to go with Polish TT champ team mate Bodnar aka ‘The Bison’ and spreads pure panic among the world’s best riders – but that skinny Sky man Froome is sharp again, as is team mate Thomas.

Giro d’Italia 2011, Stage 7: Maddaloni – Montevergine di Mercogliano 110km

We're on the percorso early, today. Montevergine is the destination - the first real mountain top finish of the Giro. At the top it's 1,260 metres above sea level, it's 17.1 K long with a total altitude gain of 856 metres, average gradient 5% and maximum gradient 10%. It's always good to 'work the start' - get some pictures and quotes in the 90 minutes or so between the team buses arriving and the roll out but today we just don't have time.

James McCallum – Racing Is My Job Now!

Ex-British Criterium Champion and Commonwealth Games track medalist James McCallum has recently returned from a few months racing and resting in the antipodes, and is looking forward to getting stuck into the new season with his re-vamped Endura Racing team. We met James for a good old chinwag this week over lunch: he turned up at the restaurant looking hungry, and with a huge Endura team bag over his shoulder...
