Bec CC Hill Climb – Dan Does The Double!

-

HomeRaceRace ReviewsBec CC Hill Climb - Dan Does The Double!

Not many riders throughout the History of the 52 years of the Bec CC Hill Climb event get to wear the mantle of ‘Doing the Double’ by winning both the Catford CC Hill & the Bec C C Hill Climbs.

Dan Fleeman, Blue Sky Cycles, who until today was a ‘Hill Climb Virgin’, in his first attempt at this discipline, not only won both events, but also broke the 12 year old Bec C C Hill Record of 1.44.4 set in 1995 by Gary Dodd, Kingston Phoenix RC with an incredible 1.43.02. We understand he was very close to taking the Catford record as well.

– Reported by Garry Beckett –

Bec CC Hill Climb
Dan took a healthy sum home after winning the BEC CC Hill Climb.

Not only that, but Dan and his clubmates also took the team award, which allowed them to collectively walk away from the Bec event with a cool :£2,000.00 between them.

2nd Place Bill Bell, Gemini BC, after dead heating last year with Gary Dodd in 1.49.1, managed to improve to a 1.48.61 another incredible ride, and Robert Gough, Johns Bikes RT, who last year placed 5th in the Bec event, came in 3rd with the only other sub 1.50 ride of the day, and recorded a 1.49.92.

All fantastic achievements, as are the times of each & every comptitor who takes part.

I and my Bec C C Clubmates, would like to thank all riders, spectators, the commentator, the timekeepers, mums, dads, and everyone who helps run & support this event. A very big thank you especially toTrish Bloxham at Tandridge council, who once again granted the event the privilege of an Official Closed Road. Without you all, this event could not take place. We hope you will come back and join us next year.

Sunday, Stage 15 and VeloVeritas’s last shift on Tour - so we headed for the biggest hill we could find to remind ourselves how special and beautiful France and this race really are. Today we’re in the heartland, perhaps not deepest agricultural ‘France Profonde;’ the rural, simple, beautiful heart of the nation, not with the gorges and cols - but it’s quiet, lovely and some of the simple, striking images surprise as you drive the parcours.

Giro d’Italia 2016 – Stage 16; Not a good day for Esteban Chaves

It wasn't a good day for Chaves on Tuesday's Stage 16, he lost time to Kruijswijk and Valverde. With three minutes in hand over the Colombian, the Dutchman is going to take a bit of shifting; and there's a danger that Valverde might leapfrog Chaves, too - he's now just 23 seconds in arrears. Nibali lost time, too.

'GreenEDGE will be on a high' we said of their chances in the TTT – and they exploited it in the best way possible. There’s a lot of luck involved in professional cycling and it was Sky and QuickStep’s turn for that particular lady to desert them, this time around.

Gent Six Day 2010 – Nights Five and Six, Iljo-Schep Hold On

It's Monday morning, I'm sitting in some horrible 'theme' bar at Charleroi Airport. My flight home to Edinburgh is cancelled due to the snow in Auld Scotia and the best I could wangle was Charleroi to Dublin, tonight then Dublin to Prestwick in the morning. My pal Dave has booked me into a hotel at Dublin airport, so I'm as sorted as I can be. The alternative flight from here was late on Wednesday night. The six all seems a long time ago...

Late June 1972, Loch Lomond and history is made as Sandy’s Gilchrist and Gordon tie for the Scottish ‘50’ mile time trial title with 2:01:46 whilst Ron Gardner is third with 2:05:15. My part in this historic day on the old road which tracked every curve and bump of those bonnie, bonnie but tough banks? I was caught by both winners on my way to some ignominious time which I now no longer remember but which would have been closer to 20 mph than 25 mph...

In 2017 he won eight British titles; with his KGF team he’s put together the most effective independent UCI Track World Cup squad there is and when Cycling Weekly want to speak to an ‘aero expert,’ he’s the man they go to. Dan Bigham has been a regular on VeloVeritas these last two years and we were pleased to see his selection for the Commonwealth Games.
